Ⅰ.3. (7) 형용사 해설
형용사는 입시에 있어서 문제가 되기는 힘들다고 본다. 역시 단어를 많이 암기하여 해결할 것이다.
그래도 출제되는 게 두 가지 정도 있는데 우선 하나는
'The + 비교급 , the + 비교급' 인데, 해석은' ~할수록 ~하다'라고 하면 된다. 이는 the+비교급+주어+동사의 모습으로 출제되기도 하고 간단히 the + 비교급으로 출제되기도 한다. 요약문제 등에 자주 출제된다.
비교급이란 형용사에 er을 붙여 우열관계를 나타내는것으로 Tom is taller than George 등의 예문을 떠올려보면 알 수 있으리라고 생각한다.
한편 er-est 외에 more 또는 less 를 포함하는 불규식변화의 변화 방식도 공부해야 할 것이다. 그 외에 'as~as~~' 로 알려진 원급비교가 있다. 우리말로는 '~~ 만큼~하다'라고 해석하면 된다. She is as beautiful as her mother 등을 예로 들 수 있다. 이는 우리말에서는 우열을 나누지 않는다는 점에서 비교가 아닌가 하는 의문이 있지만 주어와 비교대상이 나온다는 점에서 비교로 볼 수 있고 예외를 두지 않은 규칙성을 갖고 있다는 점에서 문법성을 부인할 수 없다. as만 나오면 헷갈려하는 제자들이 드물지 않으므로 as는 사전 등 을 참조하여 출제되는 여러 형태를 고루 공부해두길 바란다. 안 외울 수는 없으니까 그냥 '로서'라고 외우는 경우가 많았다.
그리고 또 하나는 목적보어로 형용사냐 부사냐를 묻는 어법문제가 아주 가끔 나오는데 you look beautiful이냐 beautifully이냐의 형태로 출제되곤 한다. 이는 번역할때 아름답게 보인다라는 부사로 해석되는 것에 착안하여 출제하는 것으로
이런 문제가 나오면 그 문제의 난이도가 상당히 낮은 경우에 해당한다.

보시다시피 작년도 수능 문제에도 출제되었다.
그리고 앞편에서 다룬 동격 부분이 예문2에서 , motor로 나와있는 것도 보이고
예전에 많이 보이던 단어 adapt/adopt가 출제되었는데 모습이 비슷하다는 차원에서 출제하는 것으로 이에 adept도
함께 암기하기를 바란다.
